PanGreen is a global initiative from executive-board level to extend Panalpina’s Environmental capabilities and to contribute to the global reduction of CO2 emissions.
The initiative is sustained by four solid pillars:
1. Certification ISO 14001:2004
To globally certify all PA Offices to the Environmental Standard ISO 14001:2004 - this required documenting on a corporate level "Environmental Global Guidelines & Standards" in compliance with ISO 14001:2004 into the "Panalpina Integrated Management System" and then rolling out for implementation in all countries world wide. In addition to this all countries had to identify all local Environmental Legislation and ensure these laws were implemented and checked for compliance. On completion of the rollout and training very intensive internal audits were carried out followed by external audits by the certifying body SGS.
2. Internal Monitoring System
Implement an Environmental Statistical Tool to measure and monitor key environmental data of Panalpina which includes:
Paper consumption
Toner cartridge useage
Electricity consumption
Heating consumption
Fuel consumption
Water consumption
Spillages
Flights incurred
3. Initiatives for Subcontractors
Complex research work was necessary to gather this vast amount of data from our partners in many different countries. Various strategies to reduce CO2 emissions and consumption were developed together with our local partners in numerous nations: More such initiatives are underway.
4. CO2 Calculation Tool for Customers
Our innovatively designed CO2 tool enables our customers to track the emissions that are generated during the execution of their orders, and where possible to find practical and cost effective alternatives that maintain their service expectations with a lower environmental impact.
This data collection enables Panalpina to set clear objectives & targets to reduce its environmental impacts thus improving its environmental performance.
PanGreen is a vital step forward and we now have a clear moral obligation to commit ourselves as a company to responsible and sustainable business practices. More initiatives will follow involving customers, partners and subcontractors.
