Update: European air traffic disrupted by ash spewing from Iceland volcano
04/21/2010
As European Air Space re-openned, the majority of airports and airlines are resuming their operations, with limited capacity.
Although expectations are high, an uncertainty remains in regards to the position of the ash cloud as well as the density of contamination in certain areas. The gradual re-openning of European airports will offer limited relief in the context of the overall cargo backlog situations.
Panalpina fully supports the efforts made by our air carrier partners as well as IATA to re-open airspace as quickly as possible while guaranteeing 100% security. To cope with the current situation, our Central Procurement & Capacity Management teams have successfully secured additional capacity by chartering full aircrafts to limit our customers's supply chain disruptions.
